Chisholm Chalks Up Arnold
Motor Supply Iron Man
Challenge Win in Featherlite
Fall Jamboree Opener
SPRING VALLEY, Minn. (Sept.
19)--Jim Chisholm took the
checkered flag Thursday
night and then drove his
Out-Pace USRA B-Mod into
Deer Creek Speedway's
victory lane for the tenth
time this season as the
track kicked off the 21st
Annual Featherlite Fall
Jamboree.
In doing
something he's done often
this year, the 16-year-old
also did something that few
have been able to accomplish
the past two seasons: beat
Kris Jackson.
Both
Chisholm and Jackson got a
little help just five laps
into the 20-lap main event
when Dan Hovden and Parker
Hale crashed hard on the
front-stretch after Hovden
attempted a slide job for
the lead in turn four.
Luckily, no other cars
were knocked out of the race
despite 28 of them charging
into the crash scene at top
speed, but it did knock both
Hovden and Hale from
competition.
Jackson,
who started seventh, was
able to duck underneath the
melee and Chisholm followed
behind. After the green flag
returned, it looked like
Jackson might be on his way
to another win on the road
to his second straight
Summit USRA Weekly Racing
Series national title.
Chisholm, however, was
able to keep pace with
Jackson by cruising around
the extreme high side of the
high-banked 3/8-mile clay
oval. Meanwhile, Arnold
Motor Supply Iron Man
Challenge points leader
Jared Boumeester remained
close behind in third.
With eight laps to go,
Chisholm made the pass stick
and assumed command just
before the race's final
caution flag waved. From
there he was able to hold
off Jackson to collect the
$1,000 top prize.
"I
was kind of sitting in the
back and I thought I wanted
to go up but Parker (Hale)
was running up top so I
thought I should search
around a little bit,"
Chisholm said in victory
lane. "When those two
(Hovden and Hale) got
together I seen that Jackson
was running the bottom
pretty dominant and I
thought 'Well, I might as
well try where he's not.'
"It's just wonderful how
well this team has come
together and how many people
come out here to support me.
The track was again perfect
with all the consequences we
had to go through with the
rain today and the past few
weeks. It's just amazing
that they can put a track
together like this in such
notice."
Ben Moudry
worked his way past 17 cars
in the 20-lapper to steal
the third spot away from
Boumeester on the final lap
while 2010-2011 national
champ Brandon Hare came home
fifth.
Kadden Kath,
2013 Out-Pace USRA B-Mod
national champion Troy
Hovey, 22nd-starting Dakota
Foster, Jake Timm and Cole
Denner rounded out the top
ten.
The 21st Annual
